International Buddy Program
The International Office at the School of Business and Economics of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is offering the “International Buddy Program” for you!!
What’s this?
The Buddy Program is an opportunity to promote cultural exchange and international understanding. The idea is to match an International with a German student at the beginning of the semester, encourage them to meet, laugh, talk, listen, and participate in whatever clubs, teams or activities they wish. By doing this, an important information resource for both parties is created.
Furthermore, the German students are encouraged to help their International student with his/her questions before their arrival in Berlin and to pick him/her up from the airport. It can make a big difference to an international student to be greeted in a new city by a friendly face! Of course, you can decide yourself how much time to spend with your Buddy...
The WiWi's International Office will organize a big meeting with all Buddies at the beginning of the term.
What do I gain?
Participants are strongly encouraged to attend the introductory meeting and then contact and hang out with their buddies. Participation in the International Buddy Program is a wonderful opportunity to make new friends from all over the world, learn about different cultures and have fun. International students, especially the ones who are new on campus, have found that it is a good way to quickly immerse themselves in the Berlin culture and their new living environment, as well as to improve their language skills.
How do I participate?
Just register via email. International student should write to incomings-wiwi@hu-berlin.de and German (or degree seeking international students) should write to outgoings-wiwi@hu-berlin.de. If you are an international student, state your home university and if you are a HU student, state whether you have any preferences about the language or origin of your future buddy. Afterwards, we will send you a confirmation mail. Our request to you all: registration is binding. If you do not show up, your buddy will be left all alone, sad and rejected.
