Information services as well as analysis services
(such as the mining tools described above) are characterized by large
amounts and a high complexity of presented information, data, and
patterns. Visualizations serve the compact representation of such
complexity. We have developed visualization methods and carried out
empirical investigations of the cognitive processing of visualizations,
in particular in order to support the learning and understanding of
