MEMS Online Application

Apply Online

We understand that the application process can be an anxious time. Please read the information in this section carefully and follow the instructions given; this will help to ensure that everything runs quickly and smoothly.

The application for the intake 2017 is closed. The application for the intake 2018 starts in December 2017. https://admission.mastersprogram.de

You will need to create an account online using your email address and you should use this address for your application and any enquiries to us. You do not need to complete the form at one sitting; you can return to your partially completed application by logging in to the system using the email address and password you create at the start of the process.

You should also upload your supporting documents with your online application. You can scan and upload transcripts and request references to be submitted online. The online application allows you to submit your complete application securely and quickly. You may submit your application before your referees submit their letters; we will match the references to your application.

If you have any questions regarding the application procedure, please contact us at: mems@wiwi.hu-berlin.de

Be aware that HU does not use education agents. You should, by no means, pay any money to a third party for your place at the university - you should always deal directly with us!

Early Bird Admission Policy

infoThe MEMS program uses a rolling admission policy in order to admit highly qualified applicants should they submit their completed application by January 31, 2018. This Early Bird deadline means you will be notified during the month of February 2018 if you have been admitted into the program. If you are not admitted, your application will automatically roll over to the general application pool (deadline March 31, 2018) to be reconsidered with the rest of the applicants, and you will receive our admission decision in May.

List of Documents required for Application

  1. Degree Certificate and Transcript of Records
  2. GRE revised General Test
  3. Two Letters of Recommendation
  4. Curriculum Vitae
  5. Motivation Letter
  6. English Language Test
  7. APS (only for certain groups)

All documents can be submitted in German or English. Translations are not required for English documents.

MEMS encourages students from all study tracts to apply for the program. A sufficient academic background consists of a strong knowledge of advanced mathematics. When allocating places, particular weight will be given to your aptitude for quantitatively-oriented economic analysis.

The main difference between our program and an MBA is our emphasis on quantitative methods. it prepares you for an academic or professional career in economics or international management.

Degree Certificate and Transcripts

The Degree Certificate and Transcripts of Records should be submitted in either English or German, issued by your previous university and, where applicable, with a certified translation of the original.

For the application purposes, the upload of a scanned version is sufficient. Should you get acceptance to the MEMS program, you should bring the original documents to the enrollement office in September for verification. Please do not send the originals via post.

If your Degree Certificate is not available at the time of application, you may only hand in the transcripts. It should be evident on the transcript that you will be able to graduate from your previous program until October.

GRE General Test (GRE)

The GRE Revised General Test is one of the most widely accepted admission tests worldwide. It designed to measure abilities to undertake graduate studies, therefore helps to assess applicants in a standardized way. GRE Test consists of verbal, quantitative and analytical writing parts and is usually held at the special test centers.

  • GRE Institution Code: 8167
  • GRE Department Code: 1801 (if not working, type in "Economics")

All applicants are required to take the GRE test - the GMAT is not a substitute. The score must not be older than five years before the application deadline. Scanned copies of the GRE report or the "Examinee Score Report" (pdf version downloadable at the ETS webpage) are acceptable upon the application deadline. Should you receive an official acceptance, you will still need to submit the original score reports.

As a benchmark to compare your own results, you may refer to the past data of accepted applicants of the MEMS program during the past years.

Particular weight was given to students' quantitative abilities. The average student accepted to MEMS program scored in the 81st percentile of the quantitative section of GRE out of all students who took the test. It should be noted, however, that the GRE is only one tool we use for assessing the quality of applications.
