Doctoral workshops
To strengthen scientific exchange among the doctoral students of the School, the Graduate Centre funds up to two workshops or symposia organised by doctoral candidates per year with up to 2,500 € per event.
Which events will be funded?
The planned events should be of high scientific quality and of interest for other doctoral students and further members of the School. Ideally, by their interdisciplinary focus, the events promote the interconnection among the doctoral candidates of our School and beyond.
A strong involvement of doctoral candidates in the organsation of the events, as well as with own scientific contributions during the events should be essential for workshops to be funded. In addition, guest speakers can be invited to further promote the scientific exchange. The overall format of the events to be funded should substantially allow for various discussions.
What will be funded?
- travelling and accommodation expenses for guest speakers
- expenses for standard consumables for scientific events
- catering expenses according to catering guidelines of HU
What will not be funded?
- travelling and accommodation expenses for doctoral candidates
- expenses for social events
Who is eligible to apply?
All doctoral candidates admitted at our School are eligible to apply. Applications by groups of doctoral candidates are explicitly welcome. One doctoral candidate should act as main applicant and contact person; further involved doctoral candidates are co-applicants. Also doctoral candidates admitted at our School but working at other extramural institutions or studying in structured doctoral programmes can participate in applications. Cooperation between doctoral candidates from different disciplines, institutions or programmes is explicitly welcome, but is not an exclusive evaluation criterium.
Hints for the application
In the application, the planned event should be presented on up to three pages, covering the following aspects:
- question and scientific context of the planned event
- interdisciplinarity and contribution to the interconnection of doctoral candidates of the School (e.g. special formats within the event that promote exchange)
- proposed guest speakers (are they already contacted?)
- first draft of the schedule of the event
- budget plan (is there any co-funding?)
- planned follow-up (do you plan follow-up meetings?)
Documents to be submitted:
- application document (content see above)
- form to apply for funding of a doctoral workshop
- endorsements of the supervisors of the applicants
All documents can be submitted in German or English.
Who evaluates and decides on the applications?
The funding decision will be made by a committee consisting of:
- the Dean and the Deputy Dean for Research Affairs of the School of Business and Economics
- the coordinator of the Graduate Centre
- the doctoral student representatives of the School
Up until when can applications be submitted?
Applications can be submitted at any time as one PDF file containing all documents mentioned above via email to: promotion.wiwi@hu-berlin.de
When will the applicants be informed about the funding decision?
Notification of successful funding will be sent within a maximum of four weeks after the application has been submitted.
