Description
This seminar will look at the debate about pre-industrial growth, particularly in a European context. Was this a period of Malthusian stagnation, where population growth crowded out any welfare gains from productivity increases? If there was pre-industrial growth, what were the driving forces? Can we reconcile the neo-Malthusian and anti-Malthusian viewpoints? Why do we care? - What are the lessons for developing countries today?
